This dataset includes a Conservation 2040 scenario for future development for Florida developed as part of the Sea Level 2040/2070 project. Sea Level 2040/2070 is a joint effort of the University of Florida's Center for Landscape Conservation Planning, 1000 Friends of Florida, and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Sea Level 2040/2070 produced five land use/population distribution scenarios, Baseline, Sprawl 2040/2070, and Conservation 2040/2070. The 2040 scenarios are based on future population projection data produced by the Florida Bureau of Economic and Business Research (BEBR). Sprawl 2040 captures a potential pattern of land use and associated population distribution for 2040, should all new development occur in greenfields at 2019 gross development densities. Conservation 2040 captures a potential pattern of land use and associated population distribution for 2040 that assumes increased gross development densities for new greenfield development over those of 2019, and protection of additional agricultural and natural lands. Conservation 2040 scenario indicates that it is possible to accommodate future population growth, while avoiding development of priority agricultural and natural lands. |
